a mythological city on a hill, each track reflecting the man's various dreams. Lynne, with the help of a 30-plece string orchestra, a 10-piece brass section and a choir of 20, has successfully combined a classical style with original rock music. On February 14th E.L.O. commence their long awaited tow of Britain after an absence of nearly 10 months. They have just returned from a highly successful tour of America, their fourth in 13 months. Despite four hit singles in the U.K.: "10 15 38 Overture", "Roll Over Beethoven", "Ma Ma Ma Belle" and "Showdown", E.L.O. have devoted most of their time to touring the States, clearly to their advantage as "Eldorado" has been riding high in the American charts for several weeks and has already gone gold. Electric Light Orchestra are one of the only bands that possess a permanent string section - two cellos and a violin, this enabling them to recreate the unique sound of "Eldorado" on stage, aided by the brilliant keyboards and mellotron work of Richard Tandy. Warner Brothers Records released "Eldorado" on January 24th.

New Victoria Theartre Support Steve Gibbons Band 20 June 1976 This was the night that ELO where not permitted to use their new laser light show because the local council or was it the GLC said it would blind the audience! Jeff Lynne  Born-30.12.47 in Birmingham. Career-Idle Race (from '66), The Move (from '70). Education -Alderlea Boys School, Shard End. First pro appearance- The Belfrey, '66. Musical debut-Shard End Community Centre, 1963, with local group. Influences -The Beatles, Del Shannon. Compositions-A prolific writer of hits, including "Do Ya", the only American hit The Move ever had. In fact, such is the demand for this song in the US that Jeff has done an entirely new arrangement of this song on ELO's latest album, set for release in the autumn.
Other songs include '10538 Overture", "Showdown", "Ma Ma Belle", "Evil Woman" and the current hit single, "Strange Magic". Was responsible for writing most of ELO's first album and all of the subsequent albums"ELO 2" "On The Third Day" and the gold albums "Eldorado" and "Face The Music". No writing influences. Bev Bevan Born: 25.11.45 in Birmingham. Educated at Moseley Grammar. Married. Wife's name Valerie. Played with Denny Laine, The Diplomats, Carl Wayne and The Vikings before forming The Move in 1966. Richard Tandy Born: 26.3.0 in Birmingham. Career -Balls (the group of that name)--Educated at Moseley Grammar School. First pro appearance-Solihull Civic Hall 1963. Influences Bob Dylan, Beatles, various classical (Bach onwards). Writing inspiration- the World (no notable recorded works). Favourite, single-"All Along The Watchtower"-Jimmy Hendrix. LP---Blonde on Blonde--Bob Dylan. Favourite, songwriters - Dylan and Lennon.Residence - Ordireary terraced in Birmingham. Insruments-

Hugh McDowell Born: 31.7.53 in Hampstead. Educated at Kingsgway College of Further Education and Menhum School of Music. First pro appearance with ELO in 1972. Influence Frank Zappa. Favourite songwriter-Jimi Hendrix. Album- John MeLaughlin, 'Inner Mounting Flame" Residence-lives in Ealing with his parents.
Kelly Groucutt Kelly was born on 8th September 1945 in Coseley, Staffs. Educated at Coseley Secondary School, his first professional appearance was with a band called Marble Arch in 1968. His musical debut with a band was at the age of 15, and he plays a Fender precision bass guitar. He is influenced by Jeff Lynne, The Carpenters, Crosby Stills Nash and Young and the Beach Boys. His favourite single is "Help" by the Beatles and his favourite album is "Eldorado" by ELO which was recorded before he joined the Band. Kelly now lives in Warley, Worcs with his wife Carol and his little boy.
Melvyn Gale He was born in London on 15th January 1952 and was educated at Haberdashers Askes in Hatcham. He later went on to The Royal Academy of Music and the Guidhall and made various appearances with Youth Or-chestras. Mel's first professional ap-pearance was with the London Palladium Orchestra but he has also played with the Bolshoi Ballet and various other visiting ballet companies. His main influences have been from the Acades, Country and Western music and the Eagles. He has no particular favourite amongst singles but will listen to my album by Russian cellist Rostropoeich. Mel's favourite song writer is, ' Jeff Lynne'. Now living in New Malden, Surrey, his awards include many musical awards and also R.A.M. (Licentiates of Royal Academy of Music).
Mik Kaminski Born: 2.9.51 in Harrogate, Yorkshire. Educated at Leeds Music Centre and Harrogate School for Boys. First pro appearance in 1971 with Joe Soap (based in London), Influences: Mike White, John Handy. Favourite songwriter-John Lennon. Group-Frank Zappa. Album- Various. Career Joe Soap and Cow. Residence: lives in Hampstead.
