auditions and show the replacement try outs how they wanted the existing Genesis songs sung. When Rutherford and Banks heard Collins sing the songs to those auditioning, they realized their replacement for Peter Gabriel was already in the band. It was ultimately decided Collins would get the job and an additional drummer would be brought in. They emerged in 1976 with A Trick Of The Tail, what many fans consider the definitive Genesis album. The show presented a smooth transition featuring the best of the new material ("Dance On A Volcano" "Robbery, Assault And Battery," "Los Endos") and classic older Genesis songs ("The Lambs Lies Down On Broadway" "The Carpet Crawlers" "The Cinema Show" "White Mountain" and "Firth Of Fifth"). A more than solid set from a group fresh into a whole different chapter of their careers; a new Genesis was about to begin. Copied this from another site not sure where!

The three men who are Genesis- keyboardist Tony Banks, guitarist/bassist Mike Rutherford and now full-time front man and part-time drummer Phil Collins- opt to have few constant factors in their set carry over from tour to tour. The only exception, generally, is their unrivalled computerized lighting system. The 2 and 1/2 hour production began with a selection from 1981's "Abacab" album, "Dodo." It was followed by the title track of that LP, which was delivered with studio-like perfection. Certain boldness was displayed by the placement of the following two selections, "That's All" and "Mama," the current and first hit singles from their new self-titled LP. Four songs into the set, and all four were smashes, Any thoughts of the band running out of fuel were laid to rest as Collins stepped to the mike and uniquely explained that the remainder of the show would be a mixture of old and new, The new obviously was favoured. Five of the nine songs from that "Abacab" album were included, and six of the nine from the new LP Mama, With the exception of the motionless "Home By the Sea" and the continuation of "Second Home By the Sea" (the evening's only spots of dead air), it was these newer tunes, sprinkled with such past hits as "Misunderstanding" and "Follow You Follow Me," that thrilled the youthful crowd. In the older, more orchestrated pieces, the band displayed its best musicianship, though, at times, some of these tunes seemed a bit lengthy. Collins, without a doubt remains the focal point. Banks is all business and gives the impression of being someone who tucks himself away in the research libraries of some music institute. Rutherford, who traded off bass and guitar assignments with tour extra Daryl Stuermer, seemed content to merely do his job, oblivious to the crowd, This left Collins to pick up all the visual slack, something he has specialized in since the 1976 departure of Peter Gabriel. Chester Thompson, meanwhile, handled most of the drumming duties. Despite the exclusion of such classics as "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" and "I Know What I Like," this show was far superior to last year's visit. Edited version of Lee Barris review

This was the first tour the band with its new line-up, after the departure of lead singer Peter Gabriel. The band had toured for over a year between 1974 and 1975, performing 103 shows on the Lamb Lies Down On Broadway tour knowing the whole time that Gabriel would be departing to focus on his new family and to launch a solo career. The band had pleaded with Gabriel not to go public with his decision to leave, because the members feared they could not move forward without their charismatic lead vocalist. However, after the Lamb tour ended, Genesis decided to carry on. Over 150 vocalists auditioned, and drummer Phil Collins, who had been already doing backing vocals for years, often would organize the
